Paws Outreach Program

Our Paws Outreach Program features 2 Certified Therapy Dog teams. Dakota & her fur brother Charlie, along with program director Gail McDonald. Dakota, is a B4RAW alum who was adopted by one of our BOD’s, Gail McDonald. Both dogs have their Basic Obedience Certificates from Victoria Dog Obedience Club, they’ve achieved their AKC titles of Canine Good Citizens, then each dog and Gail went on to complete their Pet Therapy Team Certifications thru Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Go Gail, Dakota & Charlie! Some of the volunteering the Teams are currently involved in include the weekly Paws2Read program at the Jackson County Memorial Library where each dog takes their turn at the library and children pick a book to read aloud to Dakota or Charlie. It’s proven that reading to a non-judgmental dog increases the child’s confidence and in turn makes reading more fun. The dynamic Team bring smiles to the staff & residents of rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes, day cares & Head Start Programs across several counties. The dogs enjoy meeting new friends and sharing the love! Stay tuned for the latest fun, loving, and educational adventures of Dakota, Charlie & Gail
